Which piece is more difficult/harder to play?

I would definitely say the Gnomenreigen. On the grand scale of Liszt's entire pianistic output, ranging from fairly difficult to unplayable, Liebestraum is at the very bottom, while Gnomenreigen is about the middle of the road, being an etude after all. Compared to other pieces, the Liebestraum is moderately difficult, about a 7 out of 15 (15 being Liszt's Feux Follets or Ravel's Gaspard de la Nuit or whatever equivalently insane piece you want to throw up there). The Gnomenreigen is about a 10.

The Liebestraum is fairly easy , I played it when I was around 14 and it took me less than a week. I haven't played the Gnomenreigen so I'm not sure about that but I'd say it's probably harder. I'd recommend using the henle rating system to see how difficult a piece is. For those two: the Liebestraum is a 6/7 and the Gnomenreigen a 7 (on a scale from 1 (easiest) to 9(hardest)) , so according to that they're probably at a more or less similar difficulty.
