Design your own music major or double majoring in grad school

Hello, I am a recent undergrad graduate and have three degrees in math, history and piano performance. I would like to go to a grad school with the freedom of letting me design my own major or double majoring since I am both interested in piano performance and music history (musicology). More specifically, I am interested in researching and performing 19th century piano duet arrangements of symphonies and chamber music, and explore how did the arrangers keep the originality as best as they can and how did these arrangements functions as a tool for the general public to know these complex non-pianistic music, and finally, try to bring this “tradition” back into the modern world. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thank you.

What are you looking for for advice here?

It sounds like you've got a direction for straight up piano performance for a masters.  You've got something to focus on.  Nice and convenient with the dual piano angle too.  Haha.  I suppose that could get a negative view based on the original being for orchestra and you're "only" playing it on piano. 

On doing (dual) piano with modern works though?  I don't know... Do those translate to piano at all?

On attending a dual piano performance of an orchestral piece?  I'd be up for that.  That probably still fulfills the original intent of getting the piece known (although I'm not going to go study the score ahead of time or follow along).  Is an orchestra near me playing that piece?  Probably not.  An extra piano duo playing that 'symphony?'  I've never heard that before....

I would imagine the audience is limited though.  Piano-people, yes.  But why not go for the original/full orchestra piece otherwise?  It is live music though....  And piano, so I'd be interested in hearing what x-symphony sounds like live on duo pianos.

It sounds like an interesting niche too.  But I would think someone would have already settled into that by now too.

Well, my question would be to find a school which would allow me to do both piano performance and musicology masters at the same time. The musicology side is to study the history of the transcriptions and the performance practice of the duet arrangements back in the 19th century.
