Most Performed Piano Piece?
on: November 09, 2018, 03:15:20 PM
What is the most performed classical piano piece in concert?
Which is the most recorded?
Is there a piece that virtually all concert pianists have performed/recorded?
I'm thinking La Campanella, from Kissin to Hamelin, so many have played it.

Definitely Fur Elise, or at least the most requested

Thank you both so much for your replies! but you may be a bit confused with my question.
I mean which piece is performed most in piano recitals...
Are Chopsticks and Fur Elise often performed in Recitals? I mean I can't imagine any Concert pianist playing these pieces, even just as encores. If they are than I really learned something new today.

by the way, I think debussy's claire de lune is the most pervasively played piano piece on YouTube

I think this is too hard to call.
If you were to ask me, I'd be coming from a romantic perspective and say Chopin's Op.9 No.2 has been played by virtually everybody in some recital or another
But then there are those from a classical perspective, possibly would say something from Beethoven, one of his Sonatas
And then finally from a Baroque perspective, i'm sure there's a Bach composition that's always played, maybe something from the Goldberg Variations.
Not to mention 20th century plus.. but we don't speak about that on here

too many local market and regional differences to really say in live recital
however easier to quantify objectively is played ie recordings, streamed, etc, and that sniffs along a less expected track ....
I have heard for years from musicologists this little tidbit , the most played, streamed. replayed recorded and thus probably performed on request live, maybe in recital, etc too ...work....Satie Gymnopedie no 3
https://www.classicfm.com/composers/satie/news/gymnopedie-no-1-super-slow
in a recital setting for std lit also very much possible is likely a Beethoven , Haydn, or Mozart sonata of Freedy's Fantasie Impromptu
