This discussion has been going on a for a while now, regarding the Steinway Piano Decals. However, Steinway & Sons stepped things up a notch, with a legal notice aimed at all steinway piano sellers, including musicians, private sellers, and Steinway Reseller businesses like Park Avenue Pianos, Faust Harrison Pianos, and others. The full text of the letter from Steinway regarding selling their used pianos is here.

Quite unnecessary in my view. Those dealers live on their reputation and will soon be found out in the age of social media if their offerings are substandard.

i see their point and agree with much of the 'spirit' of the letter. the value of the brand and name is established by the product the parent company produces, not the frankenpianos out there, there are both wonderful and lemon instruments in the secondary market and to protect their trademark it makes sense for them to take the stance since the value of name is ultimately gong to depend on not diluting the reputation. i do agree and believe fair disclosure is approriate if a restorer uses non factory parts, it should be clearly stated
