berklee online rant
on: May 27, 2019, 02:08:32 AM
I admit i havn't done much research into this, so if anyone has any experience or insight im all ears.

BUT

it seems to me as this online music degree from berklee is a total sham and a slap in the face to those of us currently pursuing or have already graduated with a music degree be it bachelors or masters.

How can they offer a music degree,.... online.... no recitals to play.... no ensembles to be in...... sure the people in the program still have to study the information. but they aren't studying for hours on how to part write like Bach.... and then be told to forget everything you know and learn 12 tone serialism... they are not spending hours in a practice room everyday freaking out about recitals and public performances/competitions.

I understand Berklee handing out certificates and by all means thats great to anyone seeking that. but to give someone an actual music degree. And consider them to be of the same caliper and professionalism as those of us that paid our dues is in my opinion complete B.S.

I used to see berklee as a great music school (and still do) pumping out fantastic musicians. but online??? seems like a joke that is watering down the name they have made for themselves.

If i am wrong. then please let me know. try to explain this to me because i can't seem to get my head around it.

Hm.  Yeah.  That's going to a meaningless degree then.  Thanks for the heads up.  I remember heading about them, and that there were several Berkelees.   I could see something online working if the student has access to other musicians.  Even then, I think there could be a major issue if someone had problems playing with a group, and it might be something that could go unnoticed for long online.
