Another extract from the public piano mini-session I was lucky (or cunning!) enough to arrange filming for..

A short bit of improvisation on Ah, non credea mirarti from La Sonnambula is followed by bridging into the last third of A. Jaell's fantasy on Norma.

Or, if you want just the social media-friendly minute long extract, the Norma coda - very much in the style of the famous arpeggio section of Liszt's Norma or the final section of Thalberg's Moses - is here..

Actually a pretty good quality instrument for a public piano. No question about the pianist’s quality. I’d love to hear you live someday.

The Jaëll is drowning on me. I’ll have to see what else he wrote.

A very nice public piano, played by a fine musician.

A number of people in the background just passing by like nothing is going on.  Did anybody stop to listen?
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

For some reason I had missed this one. Your improvisation is so very different to my own, but I would not be without it. The underlying romantic spirit of that age was magnificent and, unlike all the others who imitate it, you have absorbed it completely into your creative piano personality. That makes all the difference. I don't think I would worry about the passing zombies in the background either.

It's always nice to have someone who knows what they're doing filming, rather than just cam-phoning myself (you can actually see my phone at the treble end of the piano). Nice piano, for the circumstances.

The improv part isn't that sophisticated as I'm partly improvising on my own paraphrase(!), but it's quite interesting to spontaneously create the join into another, completely different piece.
