Hi,

Can a teacher disallow his/her former student to play pieces for future competitions learned with him/her?

Thanks for your help!

Hi,

Can a teacher disallow his/her former student to play pieces for future competitions learned with him/her?

Thanks for your help!

Case 1: Your teacher doesn't have a signed contract that explicitly says something like: Student Glinka, having mastered piece A under my supervision, is not allowed to enter piece A in any future competitions without my written permission.

The answer to your question is - NO.

Case 2: Your former teacher does have such a signed contract.

The answer to your question is - MAYBE.  But I highly doubt the contract would be enforceable.
