Predictions for 2020
on: December 21, 2019, 11:37:32 PM
I'll have to dig up the last prediction thread sometime.
Last prediction thread.

Predictions? 3/14/2018-3/14/2019

I'll predict....
Trump won't actually get kicked out of office.  In January, the Sentate won't kick him out.  He'll continue the same stuff he's been doing the rest of his term.

And let's go with... A Republican will be elected the next president however, but not Trump.  The Democrats won't have things together enough, and somehow that happens.

Records temps for hot and cold, wet and dry, and fires around for another year.

I will win the 'Last post wins' thread. You Yankees will be too concerned with Trump screwing up the country to care that I ultimately win.

No predictions?  Come on.  We've only got about a week here.

If Trump is impeached (even though he almost certainly will not also be dismissed from office if so), it would be a first in American political history for an impeached President to be re-elected, so that would be interesting!

UK might give the pretence of leaving EU but the process will be so long, arduous and complex that many of its citizens will probably have lost the will to live long before it completes, if indeed it ever does.

Spain leaving EU? I rather doubt it but, were it to do so, do you imagine that it would take - or want or ever be able to take - Catalunya with it?

Holland cannot leave EU, as it is not a country but part of one (the Netherlands) which I very much doubt would want to leave EU, given its history within it.

Now here's a prediction of mine; Thalbergmad will somehow manage, despite his admiration and respect for Jonathan Powell's playing, to pass up on the tempting opportunity to purchase the 7-CD boxed set of Sorabji's Sequentia cyclica when it is reeased next month! Mind you, I've been wrong before...

Best,

Alistair

Just a note of clarification for my non-US friends: trump has officially been impeached, and that will always remain in the history books.  The US senate will have the second phase (a trial) to determine if he will removed from office.  It is doubtful there will be enough votes for removal. But regardless, non-removal does not erase impeachment. Trump is impeached

If he is not removed from office by a Senate vote, he can be a Presidential candidate in 2020.

Indeed and, as I mentioned, if he is impeached but not removed from office and runs as a candidate next year and is elected, that would be a rather disturbing first in American politics.
