This is one of the most intense, emotional, and deeply felt Lieder that Schubert ever wrote. I'm afraid I do not get that from the performance at all. It feels very square and metronomic. If you haven't done so already, I'd suggest you get hold of the text and make sure you understand every word and then listen to some vocal performances of the original and then try to give the same emotional freedom and intensity to the solo piano arrangement. All the notes are there, for sure, but the song has gone missing.

brogers70, thank you for commenting. I understand what you are trying to say and I am sorry that I missed the mark for your tastes. I am very familiar with the song (Lied). José van Dam sang one verse in a very powerful moment in the 1988 Belgian film, "The Music Teacher" (Le maître de musique). I like Ian Bostridge's recording on YouTube.
