Olga Kern Rach Concerti

Who has heard Kern's complete cycle of all 5 Rach concertos? How is it? Does she play the big cadeza or the smaller cadenza?

Olga Kern, from Russia, is the gold winner (with another Russian dude) of the last Van Cliburn competition (2001 I think).

I only know her Rach3, which is good and with plenty of adrenaline like most of her performances, but no particular originality or new light (kind of difficult after so many performances of the work).

For more detail about her, there is a documentary on DVD about the last Van Cliburn competition, where you will find many interviews and performances by her and her fellow competitors.

I saw Olga Kern's performance of the Rach 3 in the Cliburn video.  I was also fortunate to see her perform the 2nd concerto last spring.  Absolutely amazing in my opinion.  I think she is a very fine pianist.

Did she already record all the concerti? I do like her playing a great deal. I saw her live playing the Corelli Variations, it was absolutely amazing.

She did a master class here at KU and I saw her play Islamey -- the best performance of it I've heard to date.  I'd imagine her Rach interpretation is equally as amazing.

Yup - I meant the 4 an the Rhapsody. In the beginning of February Im moving to Cape Town to study music and 2 weeks later Olga and her brother are performing the concerti over 2 nights. She's chosen a weird grouping - Interesteing though!

I love the way how she's so eccentric about her emotions and movements!
Truly a great pianist!
She has the personality of a beasty pianist! lol.

I admire Olga Kern just like most of you. The technique is phenomenal, her stage presence impressive. I am just disappointed in her Mozart or Schubert playing. SHe is great in the Romantics, but should stay away from everything before 1810.
