Some questions about finger tapping technique
on: January 23, 2020, 11:54:36 AM
I've been trying to develop the finger-tapping technique and have some questions for people who are proficient with it.

1. I've been doing the finger tapping exercise and can now get that nice relaxed detached feeling when playing finger staccato. I do however struggle with maintaining relaxation when playing legato. How do i progress into playing legato with the technique?

2. How do i play more forte whilst maintaining the technique and relaxation? Is it just arm weight?

Answers are very much appreciated :)

I'm surprised this one didn't get more attention:  I would think most everyone has fooled around with this technique a little bit, or at least is familiar with it.

I can't answer your good questions, because I just don't know, especially combining this approach with the legato.

So, this is really just a gratuitous bump in case some others missed this thread the first time and might have a little more to say.

I am also interested in hearing more about this, but for the simple reason that I'm not familiar with the technique.

I don't want to sound discouraging, but on a spontaneous note, it doesn't sound very surprising that a technique based on "finger-tapping" would prove difficult to apply to legato or powerful forte playing...

Would it be possible that this is a kind of "partial theory" that is only supposed to help with staccato playing? What exactly is the "finger-tapping exercise" and how has it helped you so far?
