I have had Felix Mendelssohn’s Capriccio Brillant, Op. 22 for piano and orchestra in my repertoire since I was a teenager (having listened to Rudolf Serkin’s recording in the 1960s). It is a short (less than 12 minutes), lyrical, “showpiece,” which, like Mendelssohn’s piano concertos, fits well under the hand and is technically easier than it sounds.

My solo piano recording (rendered with Garritan CFX concert grand) has been mixed with a Music Minus One recording.
