Grade of difficulty
on: January 27, 2005, 09:31:38 PM
Hi!
I have some questions about the gradings you sometimes mention. Just for me to try to compare with my own level of skill, at which grade would you put these pieces?

Beethoven        - Moonlight sonata (first part)
Chopin              - Nocturne op.9 nr.2
Chopin              - Minute waltz
Schubert           - Moments musicaux op. 94 nr. 3
Michael Nyman  - The heart asks pleasure first (Theme from "The piano")

These are the most difficult pieces I can play at the moment, and it would help me a lot to know what difficulty the pieces you are talking abot ( and grading of course) are at. Just so I can relate to my own capacity at the moment.
So please grade these for me, even though I've read what you say about how one person thinks a song is easy, might be extremely difficult for another one. That's all for now  :)

The film is good, and gives you both a good feeling just by watching it, and it also gives you a huge desire to play the piano! It's like a contagious disease!  So if anyone is in a period with lack of inspiration, you will get a lot more "go" to play than before. Even though it's quiet a sad movie at periods.   :P That's all for now

oh i love the heart asks pleasure first. i attempted to teach it to myself back when i was like 13, and was doing AMEB grade 3 or some incredibly low grade, except i was teaching it to myself and soon got bored and stopped after a page. but my friend, who i think at the time was either the same grade or a grade above me could play it, and she's not the most fantastic pianist, so basically it's not hard. um not sure how it compares to the other pieces mentioned cos i've never played any of them. just make sure you bring out the melody!
