[VIDEO] Czerny Op.599 No.61

It’s been a long time since the last time I practiced with Czerny. I started play back yesterday. It’s quite difficult to reach the right tempo of this song (Allegro), I just could play with the allegretto tempo.

So good to hear to you play Czerny.

Aside from the famous studies, which of course are wonderful, Czerny left us some wonderful works -

The problem is that much of this material is out of print and has yet to be digitized - It can be difficult to obtain, therefore, and I fear its loss for future generations of pianists.

I'm pretty sure that's not the slightest bit true. I have a couple of very good music stores here and I myself purchased the Op 599 set in paper volume only a couple of years ago.

I'm sure there are Schirmer editions still printing it. Czerny isn't one that will fade out over history.

Op 599 is one of the famous studies, and you are right, Perfect, in that it is easy to obtain. 

Take a look at the extensive list of works by Czerny - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_compositions_by_Carl_Czerny

Aside from the famous studies, much of it is more challenging to obtain.

I'm pretty sure that's not the slightest bit true. I have a couple of very good music stores here and I myself purchased the Op 599 set in paper volume only a couple of years ago.

I'm sure there are Schirmer editions still printing it. Czerny isn't one that will fade out over history.

I think because of the younger generation using digital books and prints, that the music won't be lost to the ages... but will become harder to get in paper format.

I think it will however live on the internet for a long, long, very long time.

Let's hope so:

Looking at that long list of works, I wonder how many of them are played, known or recognizable today, and how many copies remain of each.

Once digitized, even if this is just a poor quality scan, perhaps there is hope that the publishing, academic or open source community will produce a better quality version.

I’ve just played some more Czerny practice pieces. I was very happy when I found my Czerny book. It reminds me of my childhood when I started  learning piano.
