Topic: Ornament in Bach's BWV974 (Read 2994 times)

hi all,
I'm working on the Adagio from Bach's transcription (BWV974) of Marcello's oboe concerto, and on bar 24 there's an ornament I have not come across, and looking at other information from other Bach works I cannot make up a similar one.
I attach both pictures for reference... any suggestion will be welcomed!

Have you checked at the bottom of the page where bar 24 exists??? The askerisk implies that they have it written out at the bottom of that particular page.

Unfortunately that asterisk does not spell out what to play for that ornament, nor gives a indication about it either...

Is it a photocopy of the music, or do you have the actual book?

I just thought I'd clarify, because it really looks like it does point to another reference that might give you a clue on how to play it.

It might be that the editors weren't sure whether whatever manuscript they were working from had the top trill in your score, or the one on the left. In any case, I would interpret it as simply an idem, as pictured in the ornament table, played backwards. In https://imslp.org/wiki/Special:ImagefromIndex/05913/hfne , the ornament used for the E-flat in the start of bar 27 looks like the one to the left in your score (though for some reason, bar 24 has just the standard trill). Personally, I'd just play the standard trill in both cases.

My edition (Palmer and Schneider) just has the standard trill at that spot.
