Gluck-Sgambatti Melodie
on: January 30, 2005, 09:45:05 AM
Would anyone be able to tell me the publisher of this work over three staves.  I have seen copies of it over both 2 and 3 staves and much prefer it over three?  Does the edition over three staves contain any fingering???

thanks in advance

cheers

hi there

i recently bought this piece through Carl Fischer Superior Edition (S1840) and it is over 2 staves with fingering.  i was happy to get it, because about 10 years ago i tried to purchase the arrangement and was told that it was out-of-print.  if you find it over 3 staves i would be interested in seeing that so please let me know if you are successful.

Thank-you very much!  I had looked into it already and the Fischer seems to be my only option..I have known this piece for some years and learnt it from a photocopy of the score over three staves because, as you said, it was out of print.  I was hopnig to use it for an exam in June so I now have to get the score, but the two staves.

I am a little concerned about presenting this piece for a highish level public exam because it is a little obscure (apparently) and slow and I am worried that this might not go down too well.  I was hoping to present it as a contrasting work as opposed to your traditionally 'big bravura' kind of pieces.

Thoughts anyone?? I would really appreciate your advice!!

I have the Carl Fischer score with it on two staves and I have a PDF with it over three staves. Someone in this forum (or maybe another) directed me to where to download it. It does have some minimal fingering.

What I love about the three staves version is that it makes the musical intent very, very clear. Unlike to two staves version which is a mess.

E-mail me and I will be happy to send it to you. I know that copies are frowned on for exams, auditions and competitions.

It is an extraordinarily beautiful transcription and very, very musical. Kissen plays it on his DVD The Gift of Music. As far as presenting it as a contrasting piece, it really depends on what you are contrasting it with.
