Difficulty of Liszt pieces
on: July 13, 2020, 02:00:48 PM
I would like to start practicing one of this pieces and I would like to know the difficulty of each to choose.

-Sonata in B minor
-Hungarian rhapsody no. 2
-Un sospiro
-Transcendental etude no. 8
-Transcendental etude no. 6
-La Campanella
-El Contrabandista
-Saint Saens Danse Macabre Transcription

I already play Mephisto Waltz, Paganini etude no. 6 and transcendental etude no. 12 and I would like to know the difficulty of the pieces I play compared to the ones in the list.
I also love the Danse macabre transcription!  ;D

Thank you! :)

If you actually already played those pieces, then you wouldn't need to come to a half-dead piano forum to ask such a question.  There are a million threads on the difficulty of Liszt's pieces, the only point of this topic is to say "I play Mephisto Waltz."

Contrabandista?  What a garbage piece, spend more time developing better taste rather than pretending to be a virtuoso.

If you are ready to tackle such pieces you really should understand yourself the requirements each would ask of you. When I was young I learned pieces which were considered really hard, I think if I was told that when I learned them it would have hindered my progress. It's really best to just work with what you have and see for yourself and not get suckered into what others think should be difficult or easy for you.

I highly recommend to make your own arrangement of a familiar melody like "Despacito" in place of this. It serves the same purpose and would guarantee for quite a larger audience.
