Hi,

Let me start by saying that I am not a piano aficionado. I've been around them my entire life but don't know the things I should know. However, our kids are taking piano lessons and we would like to purchase a piano for our home and honestly, I get turned off by comments like, "this is a great starter piano". I want something that will feel great and sound great when our kids are beyond the beginner phase. But, there is a budget to consider.

With all of that said, we came across a used Baldwin Console Piano Model 645. It is said to have been owned by a piano technician and it looks great and the price fits the budget. However, when I try to research the Baldwin Model 645, I come up empty. I can't find many being sold or other information on them. So, I'm a little concerned.

Do any of you know anything about this model and if so, if I were to pay $950 + delivery, am I paying too much?

Thanks so much for helping out someone who knows little about this craft but would love to learn myself and definitely want my kids to have this skill for the rest of their lives.

Hi
Are you sure this is a 645 and not a 655?  You should get the serial number so you can check the model and year of manufacture.  Baldwins made in the US were known as workhorses.  Those currently made in China do not have the same reputation

I would recommend you get an INDEPENDENT tech inspection to determine the condition. Without knowing the actual condition and age , you can’t evaluate the price

You can search for a certified tech by zip code at PTG.org.  The charge will vary but expect $100-150. Make sure you play it first and that you like it.

The tag provides the serial number and it says the Model is 645. I have attached a picture.
