I would no longer label it as ‘some’ spammers but a larger than expected number of spammers.  This is a relatively new proliferation here, where yrs old posts are copied from another forum, and reposted  here. The poster never reappears.

Lately, there have been some  ‘this is my favorite music and I can’t find  the score’.  I have spent time scouring for it, finding it.  No reply from the OP.  Also probably not a real post.

Reply if you want. I will no longer do so until the proportion of legitimate posts increases.
I don’t understand why they choose this forum as a target

It's just because we're extra awesome ;) I don't reply to things that seem to be spam, but if it looks legit I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. I respect that you feel differently.

I'm glad.

Do you want to see my app?

I'd also like some more subscribers for my app.

It's really good, and several people say so.  It also is good for glaucoma.

I wish there was an app for diarrhea. Not that I have it often, but just in case.

I think it's fine if people post a thread as their first post. ..... I wouldn't want to make new people feel unwelcomed just because there are some spammers as well.
If they want to be a part of the forum they then can actually respond to other peoples posts first rather than just fish for information and never post again. So far a large number of members with single posts starting threads has been spam or copy paste from piano forums so to combat these bored kids you should just boycott all of them and only respond to members who have a history of real interaction with others. That will make the kids spamming the group have to work harder to blend into the group which will be fun to see. If a member with a single post starting a thread feels upset that they are being ignored then perhaps they can contribute to the forum by interacting with others first.

Just out of curiosity - is it possible to prevent new users from posting external links just for say the first 48-72 hours after signup?

This way spammers who are just here to post their idiotic crap won't be able to do it straight away (and most of them do seem to join, immediately post their link then *** off forever, never to visit again)...

...and this way those asking genuine questions about piano (who shouldn't need to really post links in the first 2-3 days anyway if their question is genuine) can still ask away???

Yeah single post posters posting links and random words, who would ever click them? Crazy.

I mean, if I'm not mistaken - every single spammer in the last 2 months has registered... and LITERALLY within the first 2 minutes of registering has posted their idiotic spam - never to return again.

Is there a way to delay new users from posting links for 48-72 hours as I think these people literally register, post their link and move on to another forum to advertise.

It's going to make it harder for them if they register and realise that they need to come back in a few days time to post said advertising spam link.

This makes sense to me.

Re: random words - that's the exception.  A lot of these posts are plausible sounding, since they take words from places like Reddit.

I vote for ted to become a moderator he's like the Switzerland of pianostreet and he is quite active here.

But of course - would Ted want the responsibility??? Does he have time to help out on the web-site???I will admit, Ted does have seniority, as he's been on this forum almost 20 years.

The fact that I have only just seen this five months after the event in itself tends to disqualify me from such a position. I am not inexperienced with such duties, I was moderator and then administrator of a Filipina marriages advice forum for many years (not one which still exists). There wasn't much I hadn't seen on that subject but although amply qualified, dealing tactfully with the constant daily vituperation wore me out and I swore I would never do it again.

Aside from that I simply do not read enough of the daily posts here to know what is going on; indeed, some of the boards I hardly glance at from one month to the next. I do, however, appreciate the compliment implicit in the suggestion.

Now you have me curious how you ended up in that position. Aren't you like an American or something?  :D

They're at it again. A number of posts where they post and run. They have time to write an op but then don't bother responding back after people take time answering their questions. Rather rude, or is it something else???

...And another one today. Couldn't we just block users from creating a topic until they've made, say, 3 posts on other's threads? That should be enough to discourage spammers while also not being so many that new members don't feel shut out of the community.

*bump*
We've also got a copy/paste problem. I've seen 4 in the last 2 weeks.  >:(
If it's possible to fix this at ALL, I that might be our best option.  :(
