Bartok concertos

i just got done listening to these with the music.  they look extremely hard, especially rhythmically.  also, it seems like it would be difficult to give a convincing performance that sounds fresh and good even to those not accustomed to his type of music.  how would you compare the difficult of these (esp. 1) to other concertos

Concerti 1 and 2 = extremely hard.  You might as well pick Rach 3 instead...
Bartok 3= much easier

Most Bartok I've played seems to be very awkward and thus very hard. I have read through the Third concerto and worked on it a little bit, and will agree, rhythmically it is very challenging, and it is also very awkward in some places (it's not chopin). I don't know the first two that well, but from what I have heard the Second is as difficult as something like Prokofiev 2 or Rachmaninoff 3 or Brahms 2. And I pretty much don't know anything about the first...

I love the second, and the Concerto for Orchestra is awesome too ;). Yeah, they seem pretty difficult, but nothing some practice won't solve.

If by "some" you mean "one hell of a lot"

i like all the bartok concertos , i think my favourite is the second one,  followed by the first and then the third,
the second one is crazy hard,  just listen to it once, you ll know what i am talking about hehe.  but its absolutely amazing,  i heard a recording of geza anda performing it,  i dont think it can be topped.

I second that.  Bartok 2 is the hardest of the 3, IMO.
