Granados formal structures
on: February 01, 2005, 05:41:08 PM
Did Granados write any etudes or sonatas? I never really associate him with formal structures and didactic pieces but i would be very interested to know if he did

Most pieces by Granados for solo piano are either miniatures or dances (waltzes, Spanish dances, a mazurka, two gavottes).
He did write a small number of etudes (“Estudio” and “Seis estudios espressivos en forma de piezas faciles”) and one “Allegro de concierto” (which I guess could be considered more formal), but that is pretty much it.
Best wishes,
Bernhard.

Do you have opus numbers for his etudes?

As far as I know they do not have opus numbers. The Six Expressive studies (Seis Estudios Espresivos en forma de piezas faciles) are more akin to lyrical pieces in the vein of Grieg’s or Schumann’s Album for the Young rather than Czerny and the like. They are about grade 5 – 6 and are published by Masters Music and by Union Musical. Martin Jones had recorded them for Nimbus.
Best wishes,
Bernhard.
