Tomášek Piano Concerti - sheet music
on: October 20, 2020, 10:52:39 AM
Hi,
firstly I would like to thank ronde_des_sylphes and visitor for my last question regarding a Smetana polka - I don´t go here too often and I value the clear answer by you two.

Secondly, with me digging into the Czech repertoire more and more, I can´t believe how none of the  Czech piano concerti except for the Dvořák have been given proper care in terms of a proper score edition. The Supraphon edition of Martinů concerti is often a mess, Novák has not had a modern reedition and thus is almost lost, Kovařovic is almost entirely lost - the score is only in the Czech radio, but no two piano reduction. I have been looking for two piano reduction of the two Tomášek concerti, but haven´t been able to find any. Before I make any conclusions, I have been wondering if anyone has by any chance stumbled upon a score of these? Thanks

I doubt if you will find 2 piano arrangements of either. I have both, but the 1st is solo with orchestral prompts and the 2nd is full score.

That is incredible, do you know if the full orchestral schore of the first concerto exists? Thanks

If it doesn't, it has been reconstructed since the work has been recorded.

1st Piano Concerto Op.18 can be ordered through Austria National Library, solo with orchestral parts at a cost of around 75 euros. However, as seen from the solo part, it is completely hand-written, meaning it was not even engraved.
2nd Piano Concerto is only existed in manuscript form and completed by Vojtech Spurny. Modern edited was published in 2007.

That's the reason why these piano concertos only existed in 2 modern recordings, 2nd only premiered once. Instead of getting printed for a wider audience, the concerts are hidden in unreachable archives while the nth edition of B's piano concertos are being published and performed countless times
