fingernail and piano
on: February 03, 2005, 02:13:33 AM
this is more like an advice than a question...
because i just had a painful experience...
doing an octave-like jump...
fingernail got stuck between the key while i was still forceful moving my arm...
crack!!... well... that's an exaggeration, fingernail still intact..
but very painful!!
so guys... keep your fingernail fairly short for safty reasons....
----
not too short too... about 0.5mm is perfect
because if you cut your fingernail too short...
and after a LOT of practice the day you do it...
the fingernail and your finger tip will split a bit...
extremely painful...
especially if you have increased friction between your finger and the keys...
so ... be adviced...
happy practicing...

I guess when you play octaves don't make your nails point downwards, flatten out the hand.

yes. i've had more bad experiences with the nail clippers than the piano.

do you know why benches fall apart? it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them. hint: buy a bench that does not hinge. buy it for sturdiness.
