Pianos are very subjective, and there is not a "best" piano.
However, these are generally considered among the "best" pianos. Which one you prefer is based on personal preference. The list is not complete, so there may be very high-quality pianos not in the list (not in any particular order):
Bosendorfer
Fazioli
Steinway
Grotrian
Mason and Hamlin
August Forster
Shigeru Kawai
Yamaha S or the CFIIIS concert grand
C. Bechstein
Schimmel
Seiler
Pleyel
Sauter
Bluthner
Steingraeber
Estonia (I'm not exactly sure if this piano is in the same class as many of the pianos in the list, but a lot of people like it enough to include it in the list)
I'm sure I'm missing quite a few

Certainly those are the top makers. One important point is that different makers have had different successes with different size instruments. So, a company that makes an excellent 6' instrument is rarely able to make an equally great 9' instrument and vice-versa. Really, they should be banded something like:
- 5'
- 6'
- 7'
- 8' (not many of these nowadays)
- 9'
- 10' (?)

2021(April) - I have been doing research to trade in my older Grand for an upgraded one.
Here is what I found:
1. Fazioli (no contest)
2. C. Bechstein
3. Bosendorfer
4. Steinway (Hamburg)
5. Shigura Kawaii
6. Mason & Hamlin (1900-1929)
