RCM remote exam sight reading
on: March 11, 2021, 09:11:39 PM
My remote exam for RCM is coming up soon and I just read the following about the sight reading exam:

"Prepared Sight Reading available in your account 22 hours ahead of your exam and can be prepared immediately upon receipt"

Does this mean that I have 22 hours to prepare for the sight reading exam?!? Can anyone who took remote site reading exam recently confirm?

It does sound like that with little room for other interpretations, to my ear. But I haven't done that audition, so I do not know. Maybe someone with RCM experience can chime in?

When I auditioned for college in my country some nine years ago, there was both a sightreading exam where you had to read on the spot, and a "prepared sightreading" where you had half an hour or so to prepare a piece that was given to you, so it wouldn't surprise me if you get this task to prepare a piece in a short amount of time plus a sight-reading task on the day.

I don't have any experience with RCM but I had a similar situation with college auditions this year. One school sent me an excerpt to sight read about two hours before the zoom audition. I'm not sure if they'll make you do true sight reading on top of the prepared sight reading though... good luck!
