Yamaha C6 v C7
on: March 17, 2021, 08:20:39 AM
Hi everyone, here in Thailand the local dealers don’t stock C6 and I will have to wait 6 months if I order one. I have heard many people on this wonderful forum say that there is a big leap between C5 and C6. I have a 28 x 13 room, which opens onto another small room of 5 x 13, ceilings 8ft high.  Would the C7 be too loud for such a space? There is only a thousand dollars difference between the cost of the C6 and the C7, yet between the C5 & C6 $4000. I am assuming there must be some greater technical excellence in the C6 & C7? PS Yamaha is the only reasonably priced quality piano here along with Kawai

Either one looks great to me.
Dive in, the water is very nice.
I love my C3.

Hi and welcome to Pianostreet.

One of the advantages of larger pianos is that they give more control of sound.  While a larger piano is capable of producing more sound, that larger piano also gives the pianist more fine control over making that sound, and that includes having more control playing softly.

I think C6 or C7 would be fine in your room.  While studying at university, we had similar sized pianos in small teaching studios.  There was never a problem with the volume of sound.

Play a C5 and C7 in comparison to hear and feel the difference.  For only a thousand more the C7 is a great option if it is in your budget.  Longer bass strings and overall more piano.

Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

Thanks for the advice! If I decide to go for a second hand C7 say around 20 years old or so, how much should I pay? There's a 1997 one going for about $22k

Have a look for comparable pianos being sold locally.  Also look at models from other brands that are similar to the C7, for example Kawai RX-7.  It should give you an idea of how this particular C7 is priced in your local market.

Get the piano checked out by a trusted tech if you decide you are interested in getting it.
