perahia's secret?
on: February 04, 2005, 07:45:26 PM
I know that Muray Perahia, Radu Lupu and Richard Goode use schenkerian analysis. But how? How can this be applied in piano performance? Do you think that you can notice from one's playing that he does this sort of analysis? My teacher sais that you can and that if you analise the piece that you perform it will resolv all your problems!! I seriously doubt that!

Any kind of anaylsis is just a form of practising. Using Schenkerian analysis is just a way to understand the music. To understand is to know!! This is very helpful when memorizing.
I don't think this is Perahia's secret. I am sure he spends many hours practising at the piano.
