Really pretty pieces
on: March 27, 2021, 11:08:08 PM
Hii everyone! I'm looking for some pieces that you feel are really pretty or cute, and not too difficult. I think I'd describe myself as beginner/intermediate level. There are so many sad and dark pieces but I really like pieces that evoke feelings of delicacy, prettiness or cuteness. I want to feel good sometimes when I play and not just sad ;D Do you have some tips?

I'd also enjoy some tips on more difficult pieces that I can listen to, but not necessarily play :)

Not all of these are terribly easy, perhaps, but hopefully you may find at least a couple suit your needs:

brogers70 was spot on recommending some Macdowell, there are certainly quite a few works by him that fit the bill, like these two:

This one's quite lovey-dovey  ;D , it's called Our love never dies and it's by Ernesto Cortázar:

What about Gymnopedie No 1 by Satie?    That is probably early intermediate, which might be in your wheel house.

Thank you sooo much for your tips! I recognize the Satie piece but I had forgotten about it! Now I can go and find the sheet music. I also loved the McDowell "Rose" and "Water Lily" pieces!

"Pretty" is pretty subjective, but I would say Bach's Prelude in C Major from WTC I is "pretty", and pretty easy as well.    You can play it slowly and it still sounds awesome.

Mendelssohn's Song without Words "Consolation" (Op. 30 No. 3). Not sure if this is quite the angle you're looking for, but it's a really beautiful & hugely underrated piece, and quite simple to play too.
