Strauss/Grünfeld - Frühlingsstimmen Waltz
on: May 02, 2021, 02:37:34 PM
This famous J Strauss waltz was dedicated to Grünfeld who not only made a solo piano arrangement but recorded it way back in the old days. There is also a great recording by Grigory Ginzburg. And finally there is a very difficult and chromatic Fantasia on this walt by Ignaz Friedman. So it has really made the rounds. You can find all these on IMSLP

Like Ginzburg I changed some little things here and there to fit my own piano style and also adopted his fun cadenzas at the end. Hope you enjoy this

Nice playing! What a fun piece. I recognize the Waltz but didn't know this piano version. I might learn it myself  ;D

What great fun!

Strauss waltz paraphrases are practically a subgenre in themselves.

Stunning. Highly enjoyable performance of a work that doesn't get heard that often.

I rather hope you learn the Friedman version of this.

you should do so! Grünfeld's own recording doesn't adhere to the score at all so i think the style is, you can basically do it however you want

thank yoU ! i feel vindicated ! i will add this to a regular rotation if and when i can be before an audience again.
i looked at the Friedman and almost fainted. maybe it feels better on the keyboard than it looks on the page. i will give it the old college try but no promises
