I love this piece!  I played it like, 8 years ago and it was a favorite of mine for some time.  There are some challenges in this one, though, but the rewards make it a worthwhile piece to learn.  Played right, the first movement is enough to bring people to tears.  I especially like the final movement... that kind of "perpetual motion" is infectious -- and easy to screw up if you're not careful.

I love this underplayed piece too; especially the last (Presto) movement which is quite bewitching.  I have the sheets for it so I'll get to it sooner or later.

the performance isn't so good because i made some stupid musical and technical mistakes, but hey.. i'm not a pro.. anyway i think i'm playing it much better now.. (slower and with more emotion is better)

I love this piece too! I played it several years ago and was just considering bringing it back up  :D. Very few people seem to play this piece possibly because of the second movement it really let down the work. It's a nice alternative to a Romantic sonata though. You do have to be carefull in the finale though not much room for error. The first movement is gorgeous though! ;)

Its not so very hard. It requires a bit of stamina as there aren't many places for your fingers to breathe (if you'll forgive the analagy) and the octave jumps at speed can be a bit awkward but its not more difficult than a mid range Chopin etude like the Revolutionary etc. It's just notey in a very Mendelssohnian way.  ;) ;D

Hi Hodi The second movement is much easier than the outer two it is quite classical in style and the difficulty really is just really clarity of expression and phrasing. It's not hard and its quite short - some people when they play the work miss it out because they believe its not of the same quality. I don't believe we should do this  - we know enough about Mendelssohns own very high standards in his early and middle period that if he wasn't satisfied with it he would have thrown it out so we can onlt assume that it should be there. Interpretively though it is quite difficult to get the mood just right so that the three movements relate to oneanother as they are each VERY different in character. I personally still believe the first movement is the best. Several people played the complete work at the Leeds this year so overall its a substancial piece - a good sonata alternative. ;)
