Steigerman pianos
on: February 07, 2005, 08:00:41 PM
Is anybody familiar with Steigerman pianos?
Good/bad?
The particular model is G-5A and is under 7 feet long.
The issue is that this piano is in a different city from where I live and I am considering performing on this instrument.

Mass-produced Chinese piano, very inexpensively produced, due to low labour costs in China. This does not necessarily mean poor quality. I dare say the pianos built in China today are almost the equal of those built in Japan today. Very different story from 2 or 3 years ago.

Alde,
I have heard
about
Steigerman, but have yet to actually hear the piano or play one myself. I would be very interested to hear your opinion of the Steigerman you played after your performance.
Break a leg!
(now going off topic a little)
JR11, your comparison of Chinese-made and Japanese-made pianos has me intriqued. Granted I own a Japanese piano and I have my bias that stems from ownership... but I'm just wondering if you were comparing pianos of the same price points (e.g., $5000 Japanese-made upright compared to $5000 Chinese-made upright, $15000 Japanese-made grand piano compared to $15000 Chinese-made grand piano). Not trying to argue with you, just want to understand better your views on these two groups of Asian piano makers. Thanks.

They have laminated soundboards but can be ordered with an upgraded "japanese" action according to the website. However I've heard that the Dongbei grands are the best Chinese product (ie Story & Clark, Hallet Davis & nordiska etc)
Yes let us know what you think of the piano after you've performed!
