Looking for an online piano teacher
on: July 18, 2021, 08:19:54 PM
I'm a beginner adult student in piano.  I've been learning about 2 years using online video classes I've purchased and lots of other online content.  I am now researching online 1:1 piano lessons to help me advance faster and to assist with technique, etc.

I live in a somewhat rural area of Florida.  I'm not interested in doing in person lessons as Florida had 20% of new covid cases in the country last week.

I took my bachelor degree online (a technical IT degree) so I am experienced with learning online, pushing myself, etc.

I thought I would post here to see what recommendations I could get for finding an online instructor.  There seems to be several websites where people teach from, but I'd like some feedback before signing up for anything.  Good sites, bad sites, stick with an individual, etc.

Currently I'm working through the ABRSM 2019/2020 Level 1 exam piece book and the 2015 Etudes from RCM.  As an example, Balazs Etude in A Minor is all staccato - I need help with this technique.  I'm also working on Wiegenlied Brahms (Nancy Litten arrangement) and I need to learn how to play softer with my left hand.

Any assistance towards findings an instructor would be appreciated.  Thank you.

I hope I haven't broken any forum rules here by asking for help.

So, I poked around last night looking at online portals that offer piano lessons. I founds an instructor I could maybe work with and a descent price. I had to give some info to see lesson options. I didn't save anything but the company scraped my info. Today I've received a phone call and a couple emails wanting me to complete the transaction.

I was furious when my employer scraped data.

I don't feel comfortable giving them my credit card number. Just a "student beware". Reviews of the company weren't horrendous but the teacher doesn't get much of the revenue until the student renews. It's a hamster wheel I don't care to get on.

Thank you for your offer! I sent you a message a few days ago and in the meantime I believe I have secured a local instructor. Go to bunco, come home with a lead on a piano teacher.

I appreciate your offer!

Thank you for this generous offer. A teacher was in my area the whole time but didn't realize it until last week. First thing we're working on is hand position. I'm excited about making progress with hard work and good direction.
