Roland FP10 - speakers
on: September 21, 2021, 08:38:50 PM
Hello

I had decided to buy the Roland FP10, then I noticed the speakers are underneath.  I place my piano on a table to play (I dont have lots of space), does that make this instrument not viable for me?

I would appreciate some advice as I cant seem to find the info anywhere online.

Cheers

It won't be ideal, of course, but you should be able to hear a lo-fi version of the keyboard's sounds.

I'd never even heard of having speakers placed in that way, but I haven't been shopping around for new keyboards in a while.

Try it with some regular little speakers, maybe of roughly the same size as in the Roland:  that should give you a good idea.

Of course, you could cut holes in your table (?!), raise the keyboard up with some sturdy shims so the sound will reflect off the surface, or you might just have to find the space to use a proper keyboard stand.  I confess I can't stand playing on tabletops:  it just seems inconvenient and wrong to me, but you might have to make do with it.

Oh, well, the obvious solution is just pretend the FP10 doesn't have any speakers, and put it through whatever amplification/speakers you might use for other music.

People say that the transients from the samples will harm your repro system, but you don't have to play it at full volume or use particularly fancy equipment.  I've stopped using stage amplification and speakers at home altogether, and just use an old "home theater" type 5.1 rig with a subwoofer.  It's fine.
