easiest nocturne 27/1 or etude 25/1?

hello everybody,
i am coming back to the piano after years of non playing. i would say i am level beginner+, (schubert impromptu 90/2, nocturnes 9/1&2 , first page etude 25/11-just to see if i could make it :-D ...
as said in the title, i am wondering between nocturne 27/1 or etude 25/1, wich is the easiest for my little level? both are said level 6 by Henle, like the impromptu of schubert..

Both are challenging pieces. I would err on nocturne op 27/1 being easier, but it's by no means an easy piece. But that also depends on what you are aiming for in terms of tempo, etc.

27/1 requires more varying techniques, 25/1 is more focused in its challenges.

If you are just returning from years of not playing, I would maybe pick some less challenging pieces as your foray back into the world of piano. I'd say 25 no 1 is easier if you solve the main challenge, but you need to have some idea of what you're doing or that etude will feel uncomfortable and be very difficult to play in tempo and with expression.

thanks for the answers :-) reading your answers tells me it may be a little too challenging for me! yes i didnt play for years and bought a piano 10 months ago. completly agree with you so i played some easiest pieces to improve slowly. is-there a big difference of difficulty between this 2 pieces and the impromptu 90/2 of schubert (big challenge for me but now ok- not playing like a pro!!- at 165bpm)?
After playing slower pieces, i would like to play some passionated pieces with many fast notes. and it is hard for me to find some wich are not too hard to play..

Hello, I actually think Op. 25 No. 1 is fairly doable if you can get the technique down. It's not like some of the other Etudes that require months and months of slow practice to feel comfortable with; it and Op. 10 No. 6 are both pretty accessible. As far as Nocturnes, while I love Op. 27 No. 1, I also recommend you take a look at Op. 37 No. 1 and Op. 15 No. 3. These are still extremely gorgeous pieces, but with a little less immediate challenge than the Op. 27. Also, if you haven't played the opus-posthumous C# minor Nocturne, I highly suggest you check it out!

tks for your answers!  in fact i did come back to the piano with (for chopin) several nocturnes as the op20 in C, op9/1, 9/2.. and i am looking for something with faster rythm. Actually i played 2 days last week  (because business travel) and was surprised i could play -slowly but not that slow for a start- untill measure 17, with this wrist nice move.
I practice yesterday the 3 notes against 2 (mesure 17 to 25) , wich is ok for the rythm, but harder to play with the notes for me! so very slow.. let's see today..

The 25 Etudes Op. 100 by Burgmuller are very nice little pieces, not too long and very nice to listen to. Some of them are faster but not too challenging. I'm probably what would be considered an advanced player but I still use pieces like these sometimes to polish my technique. Check them out and give them a try!
