question on a radio concert (Chopin) played in 1949 by Halina Czerny-Stefańska
on: September 27, 2021, 09:13:35 PM
Hello Everyone,
I’m searching for a public Chopin concert played by Halina Czerny-Stefańska (Polish winner of Fourth International Chopin Competition, a disciple of Alfred Cortot) which took place on 25th July 1949 and was transmitted by Paris-Inter indirectly from the radiostation in Warsaw (actually from the city of Toruń in Poland). I’m keen to find not necessarily registered broadcast, but at least described as bibliographic notice. Actually any mention, detail, review or interview regarding this event will be significant for me, as well as cuttings of newspapers published this year. Do you know any blogs, vlogs (preferably in French but English, Spanish, Italian or German would be equally suitable), where somebody collects this kind of data about radio broadcasts after WW II , maybe as a hobby?

You may have to do some of your research with Polish sources as the origin of the event is in Poland. Archives of the radio station in Warsaw, as well as archives of the city of Toruń would be places to look.
For newspapers, local sources to the event would probably be a good place to look - libraries in Warsaw and Toruń. You could look up coverage in your own city of the event, think of newspapers that did music criticism or did coverage of the competition.
Discography and liner notes from around the time. There may be references written inside liner notes that will lead you to other sources.

Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

Thank you very much for your answers and this original remark about liner notes. What is interesting for me is rather reception of this concert in France and to know if maybe some institution has it in its archives. Anyway, thanks for this reference to the Chopin Institute.
