ok i just skipped my way through it, and on 1st impression-

perl's performances are good, but not too amazing on 1st impression

hewitt's performance is what i expected - really good for what it is, but i prefer the masculine 'strong' style of a pogorelich

all the visuals are really good, each piece is often performed in different settings, with different lightings to suit the mood of the piece - sad pieces are in dark blue rooms, and flashy pieces are in bright rooms, its all quite beautiful to watch
the sound is good, but perhaps a little 'boxed' on some settings, maybe its just my headphones though.

now the really special thing was the kempf etudes - really great performances
i especially enjoyed his octave etude - possibly the fastest sustained octave passages ive seen on film!

all in all, great stuff, and even if they all arent the greatest performances ever, its refreshing to see them on dvd, im very satisfieed with my purchase!  ;D

It's a good thing you just skipped your way through it because if you had watched the whole thing with those three pianists you'd surely have fallen asleep very quickly.

Freddy Kempf is way over-rated in my opinion.  I saw 10-3 etude on TV once - it was so student-like, and so cliche I cringed.  Ive heard him on radio also and Ive not been impressed at all - no artistry.

Btw how does he play the 10-2...there have been a few discussions about this chromatic little troubler on the forum in performance....  I mean what about the hand position, speed, legato/portando touch?

i havent looked closely enough yet, but its noticably different to lisitsa

lisitsa cheats, and misses out all of the index-finger notes

kempf plays it with great facility!

the most amazing etude on 1st impression is the octave etude, as i said - some amazing octaves!

Yea
I got this DVD in HK, just 1 week after it got issued.

This DVD is too great to be true....

I love the Kempf chopin etudes...

Overall it's very well played.

Not too crazy about Hewitt though.
