Yamaha G1 or Kawai GE-1

Hello Experts! I've found 2 pianos i like. Either Yamaha G1 or Kawai GE-1.

They are both similar ages and condition. The Kawai is about 40% less. Be glad of advise on what makes the most sense?

Are they really same age and condition? Has your trusted piano technician given you that assessment or is it something that the owners (or store) told? Never buy a used piano with [**] an inspection by a technician, it's really minimal cost (about $50-$100 depending on location) and invaluable for avoiding the risk of getting a dud.

If they are **really** the same, get the one you like most. If you like them equally, get the cheaper. Note that people tend to like Yamaha more than Kawai (I don't) so that usually commands higher prices.

[**] EDIT obviously I mean WITHOUT!

It might be so that the Yamaha is a bit louder and sharper. This might be of importance if you are going to put it in a rather small room.

A year and one half ago I spent considerable time testing out several different Kawai and Yamaha grand pianos and several different levels of quality and performance of the same size grand pianos.  I decided that the best sounding and quality piano for my price range was the Kawai GX2 BLAK (5’11”) grand piano.  I personally prefer the rich, mello sound of a Kawai to the bright sound of a Yamaha.  I absolutely LOVE my Kawai  GX2 BLAK brand piano.  I practice on a couple older Steinway grand pianos at Utah State University.  Believe it or not, a prefer the sound, feel and response of my Kawai grand over the Steinways.
