I started at about 7-8 with beginner books... slowly improved moving up the grades in RCM, and it was my parent's idea because my dad always wanted a musician in the house, and I found at an early age that I had p pitch...I guesse that helped me stay in, but I actually enjoyed playin piano at a young age, unlike many kids who are forced to play...

I got started at my grandmother's house when my family used to go and visit. I would wish to spend most of my time at the piano pounding aways rather than with my relatives in that smoked filled room. I was also the only young amongst many adults so playing with the piano was something logical for me since there was no TV other than in that smoked filled one with all of the adults and their awkward silences. From there I would play at my friend's house who was taking lessons and I would talk him into teaching me little things that he was learning from his teacher. I used to find pianos everywhere I could because my family could not afford one. Until one day we recieved an old beat-up upright piano from a distant relative who had passed. Keys were falling off and it stunk, but it quickly became a dear friend. I did not have lessons for many years because we could not afford them but eventually I found a teacher to help me with learning in a more classical way. I am almost out of my method book now and I can play "Oh when the Saints" with confidence.

i started playing classical guitar 1 year and a half ago & decided i was interested in composing so i thought piano would be a good pick due to it's big register & the amount of piano works on wich i could study the style of the great masters
so i started piano late january this year with composing in mind but i'm quite enjoying the playing part of it too now=)

Mom gave me a choice:
A) Take piano lessons
B) Take gymnastics
Let's just say that this not-too-athletic 7 year old boy who would rather be reading than running didn't need to take very long to think about the options before making a decision.
