I've been looking for piano recordings of these two pieces, but no luck so far. I'm not just talking about three movements, but all of the movements (including the Shrovetide Fair from Scene One....etc) in the original version. The same for the Firebird.... Does anyone have come across one of these? Why aren't there many recordings of these? I think they should deserve more popularity.
You mean the recording of the full version, not just three movements, right? How about the Firebird?
The piano version i thought has only 3 movement, the Russian Dance, the Petrucka Room, and The Shrovetide Fair.
That's mostly true. The reaon I'm asking you this is that I recently obtained the score of the original 1911 transcription. It has The Shrovetide Fair as Scene One in the beginning, and another one as Scene Four at the end. It seems the original version also has additional sub-movements. Mine also does not have ascending/descending glissandi at the end (maybe they are added later on for concert performance). I guess there is more than one transcription of the piece by Stravinsky. Anyway, I just wanted to hear the original version of Petrushka so that I can decide whether I should play The Firebird or Petrushka.
Bear in mind that Petrouchka is (debatably) the hardest piece in the piano literature (in my opinion)....
