Piece Suggestions
on: February 27, 2022, 06:20:38 PM
Hey!
I'm looking for a powerful, virtuosic piano solo that's NOT CLASSICAL. I enjoy Jarrod Radnich and Jennifer Thomas, but I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions.

Ok, so I have some ideas but I'll divide them between non-cursed and cursed for your viewing safety:
Non-cursed: Look some solo arrangements on popular compositions. One I'll link is David Pasqualini performing his arrangement of Hedwig's theme. I don't know about powerful, but it is virtuoso. I would somewhat consider it classical, but not in the same breath as someone like beethoven/mozart. Others would be Max Loh's arrangement of the Star Wars Main Theme. A lot more classical than the former, but still not truly classical. Again, I'll link his work below.
Cursed: I'd suggest looking at some movie score soundtracks published by various synthesia tutorials, maybe some marked impossible? I know people transcribe a lot of Rousseau's works (note I never condone piracy unless the individual sheet music download cost is above 5$) so if you search for for his pop song remixes you might find some stuff. Channels like Marioverehrer are also targets of piracy so theres that too. Beyond that, look at some pop song covers and see if there are advanced arrangements for those. I don't think you'll find anything worthwhile, but once in a while stuff like that rush e video comes out. There's probably a dozen youtube channels pumping content like that now.

Apparently he improved it, check the description for the link to the new one.

If jazz is included there you may find some cool solos if you check out the jazz guys like Cory Henry, Brad Mehldau, Keith Jarrett or Oscar Peterson

Like an old sage once said:
"The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force."
Audio quality sucks, but the only other video I found where it's played on a real piano sucked, as well, I'm afraid. The arrangement, on the other hand, is hot stuff.

Arrangement is great but oh my god the spelling of the chords / use of accidentals gave me a fatal disease.

This is my secret weapon for the end of a program. There's 3 rags in the set, but this one will put the audience in a good mood, I guarantee it, especially if the program includes darker music. For example, I'm including this at the end of a program with Beethoven, Bartók Out of Doors, and Janáček. It lightens the gravity of the program, but it fits just as well in a cheerful program. Give this stuff a chance! It's also music by a contemporary (as in living presently) composer, which I think we could try to play more of. Besides, when's the last time you saw ragtime-style stuff in a program?
