Let's Heat Things Up.

What are the most overrated classical pianists or classical compositions out there? (Classical referring to the overall era rather than the specific one). I'll start:

Pachelbel's Canon in D
Handel's Hallelujah Chorus
Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik
Mozart's Rondo alla Turca
Anything Profokiev  ;)

Your turn.....

Easy - I'd say none of the above. They're not overrated and have continued to be a staple of the classical music genre because they are easy to listen to to, and have melodic beauty.

They are a product of their time mainly. Yes, some are a little older and not as harmonically interesting, but they are still great. You want someone who is overrated???

Pitch Perfect was right, with their overrated post. I just realized I think there's a difference between overplayed and overrated. I'd put Claire de Lune in the overplayed category but far from overrated. Debussy is a sheer god. La Campanella also overplayed but still a great piece.

I'd add the Grieg Piano Concerto - I can't listen to it, even to this day. I've heard it many times and it's uninspiring for me. Give me Henselts Piano Concerto any day.
