Help with valuation for student’s piano
on: April 22, 2022, 03:45:18 PM
Hello, thanks to anyone who can help me out. I have a student looking to upgrade their home’s grand piano and is trying to determine a rough value on their current instrument. I know these are Chinese made and just seeing if there’re any ballpark guides/values on these…TIA

I don't think we can say something for sure from looking at the pictures only. It looks very nice, but a lot of the value is determined by the quality of the instrument, sound, how well maintained it is you know. Do you know what the original purchase price was and how old it is? It looks like it could definitely be worth something, not an insignifcant sum if it's in good condition. But unfortunately instrument value generally goes down a fair amount when they get older.

I'd have a piano technician or similarly qualified person come look at it in person and make a valuation.

Understood. I was really just looking for any info on the brand and serial number shown to get a ballpark on value. I generally do exactly what you recommend in terms of seeing whether it holds tune etc. No record of sale or maintenance by previous to current owner. Ty
