Poems of Ecstasy – Scriabin’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street
The great early 20th-century composer Alexander Scriabin left us 74 published opuses, and several unpublished manuscripts, mainly from his teenage years – when he would never go to bed without first putting a copy of Chopin’s music under his pillow. All of these scores (220 pieces in total) can now be found on Piano Street’s Scriabin page. Read more >>

Trying to get more into Liszt
on: June 13, 2022, 10:17:33 AM
So I’ve recently learned Sonetto 104 del Petrarca for my first Liszt piece and I’m wondering what other Liszt pieces I should be looking at going forwards. My most recent rep is Chopin Ballade No.1, Schubert Imromptu in C minor, Rachmaninoff-Kriesler Liebesleid, and most of Bach’s Partita No.1. I would really appreciate any suggestions that are appropriate for my level and pushing my skills but not impossible for me.

With that repertoire you'll probably manage the famous Liebestraum no. 3 just fine!

Oh about that… I have a friend who is currently learning it and frequently tells me that if I learn the piece while he’s still learning it he will get mad at me. Could you please recommend something less famous? Thank you!

Is there anything in particular you like from Liszt?
You could just go on youtube, listen to all the liszt you can get your ears on and make note of which pieces connect with you.
I am perfectly normal, it is everyone else who is strange.

Yeah I guess you’re right. Upon doing more research on YouTube I’ve decided to tackle the rest of the 2nd set of Years of Pilgrimage as a long term goal(except for Dante sonata for obvious reasons). Thank you for your input!

I've listened to Liszt. He could not have been of this world.

I think if I were to try his material I'd first need a Bionic chip implanted to make me smarter, faster, stronger, better.

Haha it certainly feels that way. But it is achievable with enough time and effort (i.e. A LOT) ;D

Late response. But the Impromptu S.191 is a decently known and breathtakingly beautiful work, it isn't too long and isn't too difficult either.  :)
Some Current Repertoire:
Scriabin: Sonatas 2,4 and 5
Chopin: Ballade 1,4, Scherzo 1
Rachmaninoff: Concerto 3
Ravel: Gaspard de la Nuit
Barber: Sonata
Beethoven: Appassionata

Try the Concert Etudes, specifically Un Sospiro, the third one. Played it last year and it's really beautiful. Helps improve technique too.
