bad technique?
on: July 12, 2022, 04:25:46 PM
i’ve been playing for about 10 years and recently started working on liebestraum 3, which i think is bringing to light some technical issues that i have. some of the chords, especially in the right hand have caused minor pain in the outside of my wrist. i think this is because i rotate my hands outward as i play (i.e. my arm isn’t aligned with my hand). i started paying attention to it and notice that i do this pretty much all the time except when i’m playing in lower octaves for my lh (maybe lowest 1.5 or so) and upper octaves for my rh (highest 1.5 or so). ive also noticed a lot of tension in my shoulders which i’m working on fixing. last potential issue is that when i play the octaves in the rh (in the section before the second cadenza) my wrist is very high such that there is a 90 degree angle or sometimes less between my wrist/forearm and palm. i will bring this up with my teacher the next time i have a lesson but in the meantime i was wondering if 1) it’s a bad thing for my hand to always (or almost always) be slightly rotated outwards, 2) how should i approach fixing the technique, and 3) what to do about the pain in my wrists (very minor though)?

Just in case what? Someone steals your video and makes millions with it?? It is difficult offering advice for one's technique observing videos and practically impossible through mere text.

i guess i just don't love the idea of posting a video of myself playing online, but i see how it is pretty much impossible to help with technique if i don't, so i'll try to do it tomorrrow.
