Rachmaninoff vs prokofiev repetoire
on: July 17, 2022, 01:03:54 AM
Hey. i’d like to discuss whether I should play rachmaninoff 1st piano concerto or prokofiev 1st for a first ‘larger’ concerto. also I would like to play either one for the final of young musician of the year (BBC) when i turn 18. im more accustomed with rachmaninoff than prokofiev but im playing his 6th sonata currently (prokofiev) what you all think is easier in terms of musicality and technicality? (additionally… what would be more suitable for a final concerto round?)

Hey, before I address anything else, i want to point out that Rachmaninoff is double the length of the prokofiev, that on its own would show off your ability to memorise and keep patient throughout the whole 30 minutes. Similarly, I love all rach piano concertos but havent performed any, I think with the rachmaninoff you can show off a lot more, so I'd personally say the rach.
