Public improvisation
on: August 12, 2022, 11:28:28 AM
So, my train was cancelled and I had over an hour to spend...
I decided to run through some paraphrases, etudes and I finished with an improvisation (I only thought to record the last couple of items, however.) The piano isn't in ideal condition and I imagine the current UK heatwave isn't helping the tuning, but it's still better than the vast majority of public pianos.

In other hands this idiom can easily sound like something out of Paling’s Albums. With you it always provides me a “magic casement” into the “faery land” of the old world. There is to me a clear difference between clever imitation and deeply creative assimilation of style, and you have the latter. Pleased someone actually stopped to listen this time.

Thanks, Ted. This improvisation is very free, and somewhat over arpeggio heavy, but almost by accident I was in places improvising around one of my own themes! I'm going to be doing some "in concert" improvisation in two weeks' time, so that could be interesting. I did have a little bit of a captive audience which was quite nice, as it was to also be appreciated!
