Question about Brahms Op 117, No1
on: November 18, 2022, 06:50:40 PM
At bar 33, there is a natural sign on an F in my score, and other scores I have seen.    Why is that there?   And in the same measure, why is there a flat sign on the A?     We are in Eb minor here, F is natural and A is flatted in that key signature.

Looks like a courtesy accidental to me. Basically to remind you to not play F flat again (see the rpevious bar).

I do not see a flat sign at an A, but at a G. That's again a courtesy accidental since there was a G natural in the previous bar.

Modern editions often put courtesy accidentals in paranthesis.
