Mephisto Waltz question
on: February 16, 2005, 02:36:19 AM
How much harder does the Mephisto waltz get after the first soft/slow section?

I have gotten a good 13 pages into it, and haven't had much trouble luckily.  I have just gotten to the first slow/soft beautiful melody.

I was just curious because if the rest of the piece is like this, I might have a chance at perfecting it.

well, it depends what your technical strengths are, but it doesnt get that much more difficult

to perform it with devilish panache it demands extreme velocity and a dramatic style of performance, also technically at the climax section - you need incredibly fast arpeggios and leaps in both hands.

a great and popular piece, good luck with it :)

thanks!

Hopefully I'll perform it well.

Some of the leaps are tricky.

For some reason, La Campanella is so much more difficult for me.

Just to get solid, nailed, and to get the trills up to speed.

Maybe because I'm playing the Busoni?

I did that one with my left hand alone.

Maybe because I'm playing the Busoni?

Uh, no, the third section, starting with the reintroduction of the main theme, is so much more horribly demanding than the first or second, and so much more fun. Anyway, you're going to have to drill the hell out of the two "Presto" sections (Mephisto laughing, if you know the story, if not, I'll tell it) in the "middle" section. Although, if you're playing the Busoni... I don't really know, and I would recommend playing the other.

hahaha actually, this piece is very pianistic, its actually not that hard to learn.

but its very hard to actually get to proper tempo, and pretty dangerous in live performance.
