Is it okay to learn easy pieces when you're late intermediate/early advanced?

Hi guys I have a query about learning music pieces. My mom often told me to learn challenging pieces for exam in my college but I often end up not doing as great when I learn those pieces. Now is the new semester, and I am currently learning JS Bach's french suite no 3; allemande and menuet and trio for my exam.

Allemande is quite a manageable piece that I've already learnt the whole movement in less than 10 days and menuet and trio is relatively easy for me to learn. But I felt cringey when I am learning the menuet and trio, especially the menuet. I have heard in pianostreet here that this piece is for grade 4. I was also afraid that my mom will judge me because I am learning such an easy piece. I am already considered to be beyond grade 8 because of my college holder, but I only completed the grade 5 exam, and only learnt grade 8 before coming to college but didn't take the exam.

Guys, does it hurt to learn an easy piece? Do you think learning relatively easy pieces can help me improve my technical skills and musicality? I need some advice thank you 🥺

My situation is quite different, since I am an older amateur, with no ambitions to conservatory or anything like that. Still, at a point at which I was working on Haydn and some less difficult Beethoven Sonatas (e.g. the Pastorale) and WTC I, I felt like I was too tense and nervous at the piano. So I spent a whole year just playing super easy pieces, trying to milk all the musicality I could out of them, and just letting myself feel more relaxed and happy at the piano. That year was extremely helpful, and when I went back to more difficult pieces there was more confidence and less tension. So I'd say that it's great to play a bunch of easy pieces - definitely not time wasted.

Is your mum a piano teacher? Does she study piano herself? What she thinks is irrelevant if you find value in it.

Why do you say it feels "cringey"? How do you train your sight reading skills with only advanced pieces? How do you practice solving fingering with only advanced pieces? How do you train your practice method only with advanced pieces? Etc
