Chopin 24 preludes

How much time does it take to learn all of the preludes? Im just curious it is in my future plan and I learned 4 of them.

At the risk of sounding flippant, and assuming the four you know are of average difficulty for the set, it will take you 5X time to learn the rest, where X is the time it took you to learn the first 4. But seriously, how could anyone answer that question for you?

Hardest preludes are probably
F sharp minor
G sharp minor
B flat minor
E flat major
D minor

Hard preludes include
G major
D major
C sharp minor
E flat minor
F minor
G minor
F major

If you wanna tackle the preludes, I recommend starting with the hardest ones as you need to spend the most time on those. That will give you an estimate how long it will take to learn the set. The easiest ones can be learned in a day.

If you got a lot of technique to burn I think you can get most of them to a decent technical standard in not too much of time. But I think you need to spend a lot of time with this music. It's very rich emotionally and you can capture a breadth of color and feeling, but I think you need to live with these pieces for a while to let them mature.

Hello, the green piano man.

I've learned all 24 Preludes in about two weeks, but in my assessment it would take several months of serious work to perform them at a solid professional level. So, reading, learning and memorising the notes is not a big challenge. However, taking care of the technical difficulties and building a persuasive interpretation will take a while.

Still, don't get discouraged - you can enjoy the process with the knowledge that learning and performing the Preludes will bring so much experience, joy and gratification for you.

The avg piano student cannot learn the Chopin Preludes in 2 weeks, or even 2 months. Without knowing your level and experience, it's impossible to say how long it's going to take you (as brogers70 mentioned). Perhaps you can give us more info... how many years studying piano, do you have a teacher? Anacrusis' post, on the other hand, is very helpful. It's a good idea - start with the most difficult ones, if you can meet those technical demands, you can learn them all, eventually.

i think would be better to learn the first book of bach well tempered klavier. Will help a lot your tecnique and will help in poliphony and they are one of the best pieces in piano music. the preludes are not very useful for play other standard repertoire pieces.

I sort of agree that the preludes are not the best pieces to develop your skillset on (I think they are better to play when you already have the needed skills), but they absolutely overlap with standard repertoire. The technique needed to play the preludes well will serve you in any piece.
